Various Sports

We have a long tradition of participation and success in the field of Athletics. We compete in both branches, Cross-country and Track’n’Field, at Regional, Provincial and National levels.

We have had great success in Track’n’Field, especially with the O’Donnell brothers winning National titles at High Jump and Hurdles. Our proudest moment was when Gerard O’Donnell (see photo below) represented the school at International level in 2004.

We’ve had many All-Ireland champions across a range of disciplines ; Long Jump,Javelin,Sprints and Relays. Our cross-country performers have also done us proud, and in all weathers!

Recent Up-Date: 2 of our runners excelled in the Connaught Schools Cross-Country in Galway on February 1st 2009.Cathal McElgunn finished 2nd in the Minor Boys and Daire Farrell was crowned Provincial Champion after a great run in the Junior Boys event. Farrell had a remarkable 2010 making a clean sweep of the Inter cross-country and Track’n’Field 800 and 1500 metres titles – a quite stunning feat!

Every year the school takes part in 2 competitions which are organised by the Golfing Union of Ireland. These take place in September on courses in the North Connaught Region. The events are for a 5-man and a 3-man team respectively. We have travelled to the likes of Strandhill, Enniscrone and Ballyhaunis amongst others.

We have been victorious in the 5-man nett event on no less than 3 occasions. We have also won the individual prize for the best score on the day. These tournaments are great experience for our young golfers who really take to the challenge of playing on some excellent courses.
