Leaving Certificate Examinations 2025

Thank you for visiting our Leaving Certificate Information page. Throughout the year, the information on this page will be updated as we receive it from the State Examinations Commission (SEC) and the Department of Education (DE).

Candidate Self-Service Portal

The State Examinations Commission Cadidate Self-Service Portal (CSSP) opened on Monday, 14th October 2024 to allow candidates to confirm their subject entries and levels. It will remain open for this purpose until 5pm on Friday, 25th October 2024. Students can access this portal via 2025 Candidate Self Service Portal (examinations.ie)

During this time candidates will be required to complete the following steps:

  • Step 1: Regsiter and create their portal account.
  • Step 2: Activate their account by selecting the link sent to the mail that they registered on the portal.
  • Step 3: Confirm their subject level and level entry details and add or delete subjects from the records presented to them. If applicable, amend any inaccuracy in their name and/or date of birth.

It is important that candidates take the time to ensure that their examinations entries are correct on the portal before they submit. Candidates will receive a confirmation email outlining the subjects and levely they are entered for. If a candidate notices an error on their confirmation email they must contact the school.

Remember to ensure that your recorded name and date of birth are correct on the portal and make any required changes.

There are no fees for the 2025 Leaving Certificate exams.

Before You Start Guide

The State Examinations Commission has prepared a Before You Start Guide for students sitting the Leaving Certificate Examination this year. To access this booklet, please click on the link below:

Before You Start

Please read this document carefully before you register on the SEC Portal.

Before your exam begins...

1, Make sure your exam number and date of birth are recorded correctly on all stationary that you submit.

2. When using the Leaving Certificate answerbook, select the correct exam, level and language. Do this by shading in the correct circles completely.

3. All rough work should be completed in your answerbook.

4. Only use blue or black pens. Do not use highlighters, gel pens or erasable pens. Pencils and coloured pencils can be used for things like diagrams and graphs.

Answer Booklets - How to complete the front cover

The State Examinations Commission (SEC) have notified schools of the following adjustments to the front cover of the examination booklets which candidates are required to submit at the end of each examination.

"For the forthcoming examinations, the front cover of examination answerbooks and examination stationery will be enhanced slightly.  As before, candidates will be required to provide their examination number on all answerbooks and all stationery which is returned at the end of the examination session. They will now also be required to submit their full date of birth to include the year of birth, previously the year of birth was not required.

Please see a sample of the new date of birth format below:

We have prepared a short video setting out this and setting out other important information for candidates in relation to:

  • how they should provide key information on the front cover of their answerbooks and stationery which is essential to ensure their examination scripts are processed accurately and effectively;
  • and the correct writing instruments that they should use in the examinations to ensure examiners can read their responses.

This video can be found under the heading “Information for Candidates” at https://www.examinations.ie/?l=en&mc=ex&sc=e24
