Leaving Certificate Applied
This is a distinct and self contained programme of two years with provision for work experience and practical tasks.
The Leaving Certificate Applied focuses on Vocational Preparation, Vocational Education and General Education. A unique feature of L.C.A. is that Information Technology, Arts, Leisure and Recreation are required for all students. The two-year programme is divided into four half-year blocks and achievements are credited in each of these sessions. It is based on concepts of learning styles, achievement and excellence that are broader than those of the established Leaving Certificate (traditional). English, Communications and Social Education are core for all students, while the Vocational Specialisms on offer in this school are two of the following (depending on demand and resources): Graphics and Construction Studies, Engineering, Hotel Catering and Tourism, & Information Technology.
More information can be found on the NCCA website.
Authentication of Coursework, Leaving Certificate
This is a notice for 5th or 6th Year students who wish to take an extra subject (an eight subject) for their Leaving Certificate Examination.
Many subjects now have a Digital Component as part of the course. The school submits this work to the State Examinations Commission electronically and in doing so, the work of the student is authenticated by the school. Carrick-on-Shannon CS can only authenticate work that has been completed in this school under the supervision of our teachers. It is also a requirement that the school can demonstrate that the student was timetabled for tuition in the subject in Carrick-on-Shannon CS.
For further information, please see the State Examinations Circular.
